During the reign of ChristianⅣ, King of Denmark( 1588-1648), one Christopher Rosenkranz, in Copenhagen, demanded from a widow a debt of$5000. He produced a bond signed by herself, which she declared was forged. Finally, a court of law ordered the widow to pay the demand. The distressed widow applied to the king.

The king sent for Rosenkranz, and questioned and exhorted him, but all to no purpose. He then asked for the bond, and sent Rosenkranz away. After carefully examining this important paper, the king discovered that the paper manufacturer, whose mark was on the bond, had not begun his manufacturing till many years after its date. He again sent for Rosenkranz, and again exhorted him to have pity on the widow. But as Rosenkranz insisted on his demand, the king had him arrested and properly punished."

丹麦国王克里斯蒂安四世在位期间( 1588-1648),哥本哈根有个人叫克里斯托弗.罗森克兰茨,向一名寡妇追债五千元。他拿出借据,借据上有那寡妇的签名,但那寡妇力言借据是伪造的。最后,法庭下令她还债。她苦恼之余,向国王求助。

国王召见罗森克兰茨,向他查问、劝告,见他不为所动,就要了那张借据,遣他离去,然后仔细研究这纸重要文件,发觉有造纸商的印记,而那造纸商是借据所示签署日期之后多年才开业的。他再次召见罗森克兰茨,并再次劝他怜悯那寡妇,但罗森克兰茨坚持要讨债。国王于是下令把他拘捕,依法惩处。
